February Japanese class JNL Newsletter

Dear Parents of Grade 1
Here is monthly Japanese class newsletter.
 Please enjoy reading it.
                                               Ms. Hayashi

This month, The Grade 1 students learned the kanji for numbers at the topic of “Kazu to kanji”. They also learned how to count in Japanese. The way of counting things in Japanese is different depending on the things being counted like papers (-まい), cars (-だい), small animals (- ひき/びき/ぴき), and long objects (-ほん/ぼん/ぽん). It is a little hard for them to use these words correctly, so please keep practicing it when you have a chance.
And then they were happy to get a new Japanese Kokugo textbook (the second volume)!!
They read the story “Kujiragumo”. They read a loud cheerfully, especially their favorite phrase「天までとどけ、一、二、三!」(describing the children jumped to the sky).
Also they learned how to describe an appearance of creature (ex: animals bugs, plants) in detail at the topic ”Shirasetaina misetaina”.
About the kanji practice, every students is making a great effort and many students has gotten a perfect score at the kanji test so far!

* Please be informed about Japanese homework again. They have a kanji test every Monday. Before the test, on Friday they have homework for practice. Also sometimes (It depends on the Unit) they have reading homework.
Please check it with your children. I appreciate your support.

Dear Parents,

Tonight, the grade 1 class will have the weekly journal entry.  This journal entry will have a different format than previous journal entries.  Here is the journal topic.

-       Horizon will probably move in 2 years to a new building.
-       What do you want for the new school?
-       Think of the places and objects.
Ø  Example: Library, playground, music room, ICT room, classroom, Japanese room, gym, kinds of classes.
-       What kind of things do you want in those places?
-       What do you want those places to look like?
-       Anything else?

The sheet will be provided for students.  If they are having trouble thinking of ideas, please give them some of your ideas for the new school.

Sincerely,

Brian Bates

Dear Parents,

The past couple of weeks we have been working on a social studies project called me on the map.  With some of the school events that have happened, we are a bit behind schedule, so tonight, the grade 1 class will finish any part of the project that is still undone.  They will need coloured pencils for this assignment, and should know what to do this evening.

Sincerely,

Brian Bates

Dear Parents,

Tonight, the grade 1 class will do the weekly journal entry.  Here is the entry below.
Journal Entry #22- The Perfect Place for You
The perfect place for me, where I am most happy and calm, is the top of a mountain looking over a beautiful place. For this week’s journal I want you to write about the perfect place for you. Would it be with your family having a nice dinner, or maybe on a rollercoaster at Disney Land? Please let me know where you are most happy!
                                                                           Mr. Bates
Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Brian Bates
